Why Atlas

Why Atlas fits
high school athletes

Most teens either lift with no coaching or don't lift at all. Here, they get real youth strength and conditioning and learn to train the right way.

Coached and supervised

A coach is on the floor every session, checking technique and making sure nobody goes too heavy or gets hurt.

Train your way

Do your own thing, bring the plan from your team or coach, or follow the optional Atlas program built for your sport and level.

A real strength gym

Racks, barbells, dumbbells, sleds, turf and strongman equipment. Everything an athlete needs.

Your first month

  1. First visit

We go over their sport, schedule and any injuries, look at how they move and get them set up with a plan.

  2. Weeks 1–4

They learn to squat, hinge, press and pull with good technique, and settle into a routine after school.

  3. Month 2 and beyond

The weights go up, they move better and feel more confident, and it starts to show in their sport.

Patrick Rice, owner and head coach of Atlas Strength

Your coach

Patrick Rice

I coach high school athletes at Atlas, from individual kids to football and wrestling teams. Young athletes need good technique first, then steady strength, without getting beat up during the season.

In the weight room I'm on the floor the whole time, checking form, picking weights and making sure every kid trains safely and actually gets better.

“After having two kids in the last 4 years, I didn't think I would ever get back into heavy lifting… I have not only gotten my strength back after my kids, but it's better than ever, and my body feels good while I do it.”
Brittany V. · Google review
★★★★★Training around an injury
“I came in dealing with some right shoulder issues, and instead of just having me push through pain or avoid certain movements altogether, he took the time to show me different techniques and modifications… That level of personalized attention and knowledge is hard to find at most gyms.”

Questions

FAQ

Anything else? Call or text (516) 524-3420.

Who is it for?

High school students. Athletes in any sport, in season or off-season, and teens who don't play a sport but want to get stronger and in shape.

Does my teen need any lifting experience?

No. The basic lifts are taught from scratch, and weights are picked for them until their technique is solid.

What if they don't know what to do in a gym?

That's what I'm here for. I'll show them around, teach them how to use the equipment and guide their workouts until they're comfortable. If they want more structure, they can follow the Atlas program.

Do they have to follow your program?

No. They can do their own thing in the gym or train the plan from their team or coach. If they want one, there's an optional Atlas program built for their sport and level.

Is lifting safe for teenagers?

When it's coached and progressed properly, yes. I watch every kid's form, make sure they're working hard without going too heavy, and stop anything that could get them hurt. Technique comes first, and the weight only goes up when they're ready.

What if they're in season?

They can keep training around games and practices with lighter work that keeps them strong without wearing them down.

Can it help my athlete get ready for college recruiting?

Yes. Getting bigger, stronger and faster in the off-season is one of the best things an athlete can do before showcases, combines and recruiting visits. I'll help them train for it.

Do they have to come every day?

No. Come to the hours that fit around practice and homework.

Do parents need to sign anything?

Yes. A parent or guardian signs a waiver before the first visit, and kids check in every time they arrive, so you always know they're here.

What should they bring?

Athletic clothes, sneakers and a water bottle.

How much does it cost?

I'll go over it when we talk, with no pressure and no contracts.
